PRIDE series (English) – Sessions 8 & 9

• Session 2: Teamwork Towards Permanence - OCTOBER 2 – Saturday - 9 am to 12 pm
• Session 3: Meeting Developmental Needs: Attachment - OCTOBER 7 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm
• Session 4: Meeting Developmental Needs: Loss - OCTOBER 14 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm

• Session 6: Continuing Family Relationships - OCTOBER 21 - Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm
• Session 7: Meeting Developmental Needs: Discipline - OCTOBER 28 - Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm

• Session 9: Making an Informed Decision - NOVEMBER 4 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm

 What is PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education)?

Developed in Illinois in 1993, PRIDE is a competency-based model for the development and support of resource (foster and adoption) families. It is designed to strengthen the quality of foster care and adoption services by providing a standardized, structured framework for recruiting, preparing and selecting foster and adoptive parents. It also provides foster parent inservice training and ongoing professional development.

The components of the PRIDE Program are:

• Nine Pre-Service training modules (27 hours)
• “Connection” homework assignments related to each session
• Mutual Family Assessment – competency based and integrated with SAFE
• Family Development Planning Tools (for ongoing education)
• Nine In-Service training modules also available in digital format

Session Eight: Planning for Change

Session Eight explores the challenge of keeping children and youth safe and feeling secure with a focus on children and youth who have been sexually abused. The session looks at how your family would be different after having a child or youth placed in your care or after adopting a child or youth. Session Eight takes a practical view of what to expect during the first hours, days and weeks of a child or youth's placement in a home. This session explores the long-range impact of placement as well. The session ends with a look at how resource families find support from other team members and professionals.

Session Nine: Making an Informed Decision

In this closing session, applicants will hear from a panel of experienced members of the child or youth’s team. Resource parents, biological parents, workers, adoptees, youth in care and family members will present their views and answer questions. Applicants will have a chance to reflect on their own growth in the knowledge and skills required for resource parenting. They will be well on their way toward a final decision about their commitment to becoming kin, customary care, foster care or adoptive parents.
