• Session 1: Connecting with PRIDE - SEPTEMBER 30 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm
• Session 2: Teamwork Towards Permanence - OCTOBER 2 – Saturday - 9 am to 12 pm
• Session 3: Meeting Developmental Needs: Attachment - OCTOBER 7 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm
• Session 4: Meeting Developmental Needs: Loss - OCTOBER 14 – Thursday - 6 pm to 9 pm
• Session 5: Strengthening Family Relationships - OCTOBER 16 -Saturday - 9 am to 12 pm

What is PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education)?

Developed in Illinois in 1993, PRIDE is a competency-based model for the development and support of resource (foster and adoption) families. It is designed to strengthen the quality of foster care and adoption services by providing a standardized, structured framework for recruiting, preparing and selecting foster and adoptive parents. It also provides foster parent inservice training and ongoing professional development.

The components of the PRIDE Program are:

• Nine Pre-Service training modules (27 hours)
• “Connection” homework assignments related to each session
• Mutual Family Assessment – competency based and integrated with SAFE
• Family Development Planning Tools (for ongoing education)
• Nine In-Service training modules also available in digital format

Session Seven: Meeting Developmental Needs: Discipline

Session Seven explores the challenge of discipline. It includes definitions of discipline and punishment and discussion about how they are different. Applicants will review the agency's policy on discipline and discuss why physical punishment is not permitted. The session covers the knowledge, skills and personal qualities adults need to instill discipline. Applicants will explore the meaning of a child or youth's behaviour and the factors that influence behaviour. The session offers effective skills practice for resource parents.
