This program develops an understanding of Lean and its applicability within the organization as well as a basic proficiency in applying key Lean tools and practices to make small improvements across a variety of service settings.

ASSESSMENT

This program builds on the White Belt training and aims to create a basic proficiency in applying key tools and practices to achieve small improvements in the workplace.

Participants need to successfully complete a 1-hour exam to achieve Lean Yellow Belt certification.

Content
Lean refresh
• Value stream mapping
• Selecting a process to value stream map
• Mapping the process
• The customer
• Lean tools (Kaizen, Work balancing, Spaghetti diagrams, Single piece flow, Mistake proofing)
• Building and analyzing your current state value stream map

As part of the training, participant teams – supported by the Leading Edge Group facilitator – will develop high level current state maps of specific workplace processes. The maps will depict information and activity flow and indicate value-added and non-value-added activities.

Once the participants have developed the current state maps, the facilitator will support the group in carrying out analysis to identify bottlenecks; redundancies; poor layouts; inefficient flow; defects; points of dissatisfaction; inappropriate workforce issues; etc.

BY INVITATION ONLY

This program provides a basic introduction to and awareness of Lean thinking and its application in community-based health and social services settings. Participants develop an appreciation for the applicability of Lean within the organization and receive an overview of key
Lean tools and techniques.

Upon completion, participants will also be able to identify and distinguish between value-added and non-value-added (waste) items/activities in their work areas and identify specific improvement opportunities.

Participants receive a Lean White Belt certificate of attendance at the end of the program.
