Webinar - "'To talk or not to talk?': Foster Youth's Experiences of Sharing Stories about their Past and Being in Foster Care"

Type d'événement Webinaires

Informations générales

Sharing stories about the past and about being in care, can help adolescents placed in out-of-home care to make meaning of their experiences. Also, having these conversations can deepen the connection between youth and their conversation partner. However, not all youth find it easy to talk about these emotional events. In this webinar, I will illustrate how 13 youth living with foster families have experienced these conversations. Their experiences hold important implications for practice, because they both indicate when foster youth share stories and why they do (or don’t). The stories of the participating youth highlight both the opportunities and obstacles for talking. This webinar will give practitioners an overview of the needs of foster youth with regard to conversations about their past experiences and how meaning-making processes can be facilitated.

Anne is currently conducting her PhD research at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands, and has previously earned a master’s degree Clinical Child and Adolescent Studies at the University of Leiden. During her master, she studied a year abroad at the University of Michigan. Her PhD research focuses on the needs of foster children and their voice in research and practice. She is particularly interested in the impact of previous maltreatment on the needs of foster children.
